Bake My Day Cupcake Review

       I am excited to share with you a local up and coming baker in my area.  She had contacted me in reagards to trying some of her products and letting her know what I thought about them.  Well let me tell you, Bake My Day made my day.  Before I go into more details I really want to share with you how pretty these cupcakes were....

Peppermint Swirl

  

      

       

      

      The Peppermint Swirl cupcake had a yellow cake base with a vanilla frosting on top, red gel frosting for the swirls, and last but not least, the ingredient that gives it it's name, crushed peppermint on top.

Cone Cake

      The Cone cupcakes were the most surprising to me visually.  I had seen these done on Pinterest but never in person.  This cupcake was in a purple ice cream cone  and had a yellow cake base  with a chocolate icing and sprinkles on top. 

Chocolate Peanut Butter Delight

      

      

    

      The Chocolate Peanut Butter Delight cupcake had a chocolate cupcake base with rich peanut butter frosting and crumbled Reese's cups on top.

Candy Bar Crush

      The Candy Bar Crush cupcake had a yellow cake base with a creamy vanilla frosting with little hershey chocolate bars and crushed chocolate on top.

Easter Themed

 

      Last but definitely not least are the Easter Themed Cupcakes.  Aren't these just adorable.  They are perfect for any Easter Celebration coming up.  These cupcakes had a yellow cake base with a nice green colored vanilla frosting and to top it off they little gumballs to make it look like Easter eggs in the grass.

      Let me first start with a big Thank You to Haley, the owner of Bake My Day for giving me the opportunity to try some of your wonderful cupcakes.  Not only did I enjoy them but my family did as well.  It's always nice to see someone locally offer a product or service that I can use that takes the place of what the larger retail chains are offering.

      Now for my review.  I personally loved all of these cupcakes.  I have the biggest sweet tooth ever so needless to say I've tried my share of cupcakes and these rank up there with the top ones.  All of these cupcakes were nice and light and fluffy.  You can tell that Haley really took her time with the mixing process.  These cupcakes with the perfect mix between being moist and fluffy but not dense or spongey.  They had just the right amount of frosting.   And to be honest  if I have a complaint about a cupcake or cake it's usually about the flavor or the amount of frosting.  As stated these had just enough frosting to compliment the cake itself as well as the "decorative and edible" toppings without being overpowering.

      My personal favorites were the Chocolate Peanut Butter Delight and the Peppermint Swirl.  I was prettty sure the Peanut Butter Delight would be one of my favorites but the Peppermint surprised me.  The peppermint on top gave just the right amount of peppermint flavoring that it lasted through eating the entire cupcake.  For the CPBD, who doesn't love chocolate and peanut butter.  This is one of the best homemade peanut butter frostings I've ever had.

      I was pleasantly surprise with the cone cakes.  As mentioned above I had seen them online but never seen them made in person.  I had heard that these could sometimes be soggy or stale but that wasn't the case here.  The cones were filled from top to bottom with cake.  The cone was nice and crisp and the cake light and fluffy.  I think these would be a big hit with the kids.  I found the Candy Bar Crush cupcakes to be very simple yet tasty.  They had the right amount of icing and chocolate bars on top go with the cake below.  The Easter Themed cupcakes were just adorable. My nephew who's 3 1/2 loved these and wanted to get the eggs off the top.  They would make the perfect treat for any Easter party.  

     One of the other things I wanted to try with these cupcakes was the "Next Day" test, because we all know there are time that you just don't eat them all in one day.  I kept these in the box they came in and  found the next day that they weren't hard or stale and were just as good as they were the day before.

      As for the packaging, I really like how these came in a "bakery box".  It made them look really professional.  Plus they were easy to carry without having to worry about them tipping over.  I also liked the fact that she had business cards; which is something that a lot of people don't have when they are first starting out.  This really does help spread the word about a company and makes it easy for someone who is interested in placing an order to contact them.  The cards are cute and fitting for the business field.  I also like the catch line... "Baking a Dozen Smiles Each Day!"

Product Review

      I  feel that this product is a good purchase simply for the fact that it is only $3 and comes with a decent amount of primer and liner sealer.  Since this is a dual purpose product I'll let you know how I feel about each of them individually.
Primer:   As you can see above the primer is very yellow toned so if you would be using it with a  white eyeshadow it may change the coloring of it.  I have cool toned skin and as you can see in the picture above once you blend it out, its not that noticeable.  This product is very thick and you can have some drag/tugging in order to get the product to apply to your eyelids.  I would recommend using a brush to apply or a clean finger tip to warm up the product first and then apply to your eyelids.  This does blend out nicely once you get it on your skin.  It reminds me of how the Maybelline Dream Matte  Concealer feels after you apply it. This goes on kind of dry and isnt tacky after you blend it in.  This primer isn't the best out there.  Obviously  the higher end primers and some primers from other drugstore lines work better, but it's hard to find another primer for $1.50 that works this good.  This lasts around 4 hours depending on what I'm doing. I do have oily eyelids since I have oily/combination skin so if you have dry skin this might work better for you.  But I feel that 4 (and sometimes more) hours isn't a bad lasting time. Especially if you are just going out to eat or running to the store or something like that.  If you have are going to a big event I would recommend you try another primer.  I haven't had any reactions to this primer and will continue using it.  I'm not sure if I would repurchase it as I'm currently looking for a drugstore primer to keep as a staple.  But if in a pinch or left to choose between this and nothing I would definitely repurchase this primer.
Liner Sealer:  When I first opened this I was hesitant to use it. It has a strong alcoholically smell.  After reading the description on the box I found that it does in fact have alcohol in it. Which is a good thing b/c it comes with the felt tip applicator as you see in the picture above. You reuse this felt tip applicator over and over so it is important to have something in their that is killing any germs and bacteria it may have come in contact with.  The formulation of the liquid is very thin and watery.  Which is a good and bad thing. Its good b/c it helps to have a thin non clumpy liner but I have found that the felt tip applicator picks up alot of liquid at once so I usually end up with too much liquid on it even though I try to get the excess off.  This can make a large wet spot on the eyeshadow and sometimes leaves it feeling chalky after it dries.  I wish that the felt tip applicator looked cleaner after using it. The directions say for best results wipe off and clean applicator before closing. I have done this and as you can see from the photo above it is still stained.  Plus I don't want to pull and bend it too much b/c it will loose its shape.  I have found that this product works best with shadows that have a satin or shimmer finish versus a matte finish. The matte shadows I used this with worked but I had to apply a couple of coats because it kept looking streaky. If you watch my video I do a smudge test on the liners I made and you can see that they dont budge. I went over them quite a few times and used way more pressue then you would have on your eyelids.  I don't notice the alcoholically smell when I apply this to my eyes but it does feel cool on the skin.  The liner this creates dries very quickly which I love.  This isn't water proof but I find that it stands up pretty good against moisture as long as you aren't actually wiping at the liner.  
      Overall I would recommend you at least try the e.l.f. Eye Primer & Liner Sealer Duo.  Its definitely worth the money and is pretty compact so its portable and takes up less space than if you were to try and carry both of these products seperately.  It's also a bonus b/c if you ever forget your liner, you can just transform you eyeshadow into one.  If you have tried this product before please let me know your thoughts and opinions.   Thanks for reading  and have a great day.

Product Review

      Let me first start by saying how much I really like this product.  The Covergirl Lipslicks have become my favorite tinted lip balms and balm in general.  I even prefer this over my EOS lip balms.  I use this almost every day of the week.   This is very moisturizing to your lips and I like that fact that it offers color as well.  The color is buildable without looking streaky.  It feels light on the lips and isn't sticky or tacky like some lip balms can be.  The Lipslicks look similar to a high shine lipstick or even a gloss.   You do have to reapply this after a while, but that's typical for most lip balms whether tinted or not.  I have gone out to eat before and actually had some of the product last through eating, which was a surprise because most don't last through the first couple of bites.  You do have to reapply this after throughout the day and after eating but that fact that any product was left again was a surpise to me.  

      This lip balm doesn't really have a scent, if anything it smells/tastes like the typical "glyceriney" taste/smell like some lip products have but this goes away in a few minutes.  I really like the shape of this.  Since the tip is slanted it makes application really easy, especially around the cupids bow area.  I also like how sleek and slim the packaging of this is.  It's slimmer than most lipsticks which makes it very portable.  The lid stays on really well so you don't have to worry about it popping off if you happen to drop it.  

      These are very affordable. The price does vary from store to store but after looking online I see that the price varies from $3.50-$6.00.  I definitely recommend the Cover Girl Lip Slicks to anyone.  Let me first warn you and say that once you try these, I think you'll definitely become hooked.  Also, if you aren't a fan of tinted lip balms, this is also available in a clear balm as well.  So please check them out and let me know what you think.

Product Review

 
      The Generic Value Products line was formed, because a group of experienced chemists and marketing personnel knew they could produce a product as good as the higher priced quality name brands. The GVP is a generic version of the Matrix Amplify Volumizing System Root Lifter.  I haven't tried the Matrix one so I can't do a comparison of them.  

      This is  my favorite product for adding volume to my hair.  I use this product on damp or dry hair.  I spray this close to the root of my hair, and usually focus on the crown of my head.  After applying this I flip my hair over and blow dry it while my head is upside down.  I brush my hair while its upside down to help direct the hair forward so that when I flip it over I get the most volume.  If I I use this on dry hair and I let it air dry or hit it with the dryer for a few seconds.  While I'm drying it I pick up the hair at my crown and brush it forward to over direct it towards my forehead.  Its the same concept as flipping my head over except its easier.

      This product works really well with my hair. I have oily hair, which means that usually within 12-14 hours after washing my hair it's starting to look oily.  This  doesn't make my head dry or itchy as I've heard some people say that root lifter can sometimes do.  It has a kind of fruity hair spray/gel smell. The smell isn't that strong and fades after the product dries.

      I really like the size of this bottle. It's 8.5 fl. oz/251 ML.  So you get a good amount of product that lasts a long time b/c you don't have to use a lot to get the desired effect.  Also as you can see in the picture of the nozzle above, it's different than your typical spray nozzle.  It dispenses and disperses the right amount of product in the right place.  This retails for $7.79 a bottle and if you have a Sally Beauty Beauty Club Card it is discounted to $6.99.

       I definitely recommend you stop by your local Sally Beauty supply store and check this out. The GVP line has a large selection of products at really affordable prices (especially compared to the price of the original) so I'm sure if you don't like this you'll fine one that works for you.
